Casino Games – How To Bet On Them

Finding out how to best bet in casino games

Whether you are new to online casino gaming or an old hand at a particular game and seeking a new challenge, there are a few things that are worth considering when settling on what to play next. Not least among this is whether games are fair, whether sites are secure, how to play certain games, and will they suit your playing style. But, there is one other thing you must take into consideration, and that is the house edge.

True, some games, such as poker, are skills-based, and other games, such as slots, are built around chance, but whenever you are playing casino games, you should be aware that the odds are going to be against you. Of course, you still have every chance of making a lot of money, but at the end of the day, online casinos are businesses and do need to generate a profit. So, to that end, let’s take a look at our casino game options.

What Is House Edge?

Our first aim is to fully understand the casino advantage and what we can do about it. Casino games, such as baccarat, roulette, craps and blackjack, have been popular for centuries. The house advantage, also known as the house edge, hasn't changed much over that time.

Casinos employ a house edge to ensure that games are weighted in their favor. Just how weighted differs from game to game and, in some casinos, from house to house.

The house edge percentage represents the casino's profit margin over the long term. Due to the role of variance, it could take many games before casinos achieve this profit margin. So, with the following in mind, it's maybe worth taking a look at casino games that we can play that have a lower house edge.

Casino Games With A Low House Edge

We have two objectives when we bet on casino games, to have fun and win money. We can, of course, reduce the casino's advantage by making smart plays and utilizing effective strategies. But the best bet to simply play the games with the lowest house edge available.

A casino's house edge can be reduced by playing such games the right way. Here is a list of some casino games with the lowest house edge that are available to bet on right now.

Online slots are powered by random number generators (RNG), which is what keeps them fair. All games come with an RTP rate, a return to player percentage that gives you some idea of your likelihood of success. While progressive jackpots are obtainable, slots payouts, especially regular ones, are not as high as table games generally speaking.

They are, however, both online and live, always the most popular attraction at a casino. With new games being launched every day, software suppliers are forever developing new games. They tweaking their themes and features such as free spins, interactive bonus rounds and jackpots.

Features like these are your best way of reducing the house edge. Volatility, or risk, is also something that you should think about as it has a significant effect on what you do with your bankroll.

The thing about roulette is that there are two popular versions. These are the European (sometimes referred to as French) and American, and both come with different house edges. The house edge in European Roulette is 2.7%, whereas the house advantage in American Roulette is 5.26%.

Why? Because of the pockets. American Roulette has an extra zero pocket on top of 38 other pockets and thus, there are extra permutations.

But in European Roulette, the possible outcomes are reduced slightly due to there being only one zero and 37 pockets. Odds-wise, both games pay out 35/1 on straight bets, even though its harder to pull off in American Roulette.

Blackjack takes its house edge from the number of decks used in a game, which can be as many as eight. The more cards you are playing with, the harder the next card will be to read.

It should go without saying that the more high valued cards there are in play, the higher the likelihood of their appearance is. When you are trying to creep your way up to but not over 21, the fewer cards in play, the better.

In short, the house advantage is significantly lowered for single-deck games of blackjack. There is also a soft 17 rule in place. Here casinos can either make their dealers stand or hit at that point with no other option.

While hitting will improve your chances of success, dealers standing will raise the house advantage. This is because they are far less likely to breach the 21 mark.

Craps offers one of the lowest house edges for an online casino game. It is as low as 1.4% for pass, don't pass and come and don't come bets. These are far and away the most common wagers in the game, most likely because they are simple to understand and accessible to play.

Players are even able to reduce this advantage by opting for the free odds bet, which does not carry an edge at all. Know that if you do exactly that, the game offers 2x the odds you can get allowing you to cut the edge to around 0.83% and give you the best possible chance of winning at craps.

In baccarat, bettors choose whether to bet on who has the highest score out of either the player or the banker. Here, the term player does not refer to you; rather, it is the designated opposition to the banker.

You can also bet on the rarer outcome of a tie before both sides draw cards. Whoever has a total that is closer to 9 will win the hand. Despite the fact that all bets on the banker come with a commission fee attached, the smart move is still to bet on the banker. This is because there are stringent rules applied to the drawing of extra cards, most of which are designed to raise the house edge and be advantageous for the banker's hand.

Video Poker

Video Poker games can include versions such as Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild. Both of these can be classified as games of skill. We wouldn't go as far as to say they offer 0% house edge (some do), but normal poker strategies can work to your advantage and against the casino's.

Video poker offers some of the highest betting odds in a casino and has a low house edge while still giving you the chance to influence the game with the right skills, strategy, knowledge, and, let's be honest, an element of luck too. But, with the right combination, you can beat video poker machines with a fair regularity.

You are, after all, playing against a machine and are nearly 5x more likely to hit one of the large jackpots such as the elusive Royal Flush, the dream of poker grinders the world over.

Pai Gow Poker

Pai Gow Poker gives players twice the chance to win by forming two winning hands out of the seven cards dealt by splitting them into the best possible combination of a five-card hand and a two-card hand. These cards are then played against the dealer's.

To win, both hands, the larger of which must be stronger than the smaller, must trump the dealer's two; otherwise, you will lose or possibly even tie. These ties are fairly commonplace, which leads to an overall better RTP than many other casino games and perhaps the best of the poker variants. Essentially, you want to strike the best possible balance between both of your hands so that they both have a good chance of winning.

Three Card Poker

As the name suggests, hands in this game consist of just the three cards. Three cards will be dealt your way, and three cards go to the dealer. These remain overturned until players place a play bet equal to the initial ante.

There is no further drawing in the game and no more betting rounds; just a good old fashioned three-card hand comparison. However, the dealer can only qualify with a Queen high card or better, which increases the odds for the player.

If the dealer doesn't qualify, there is an even money payout on the ante alone. Returns are far more likely than in regular poker, although standard poker strategies should serve you well.

After all, a straight flush can be constructed with just three suited cards. The game's low house edge means that it is always worth playing Queen high to stand a chance of getting at least your stake money back.

Caribbean Stud

Caribbean Stud is like normal stud poker, from which it actually derives, but without the bluffing, because the house is the only opponent you need to beat in this game. To play, just place an ante bet before being dealt a five-card hand.

The dealer will also take five and leave one showing face up. Once you have taken a look at the visible dealer card, you then need to decide if it's worth playing on, folding, or forfeiting the ante. Because dealers require an Ace-King to qualify, players get good odds even when they are only holding high carded hands.

Play Casino Games

You can find hundreds of online casino games at online gambling sites. Top software providers are continuously rolling out fresh new games. From slots that come in all themes and variations to table games and card games. Some top choice online casinos also offer live dealer casino games which are exceptionally exciting to play. You will likely find many games that would tickle your fancy.
