Week 6 NFL Picks: Predictions in Detail

Monday Night Football: Bills @ Titans – NFL Week 6 Predictions and Picks

Week 6 of the NFL season concludes with the hottest team in the league, the 4-1 Buffalo Bills, visiting the AFC South leaders Tennessee Titans. The Bills are on a four-game winning streak (+115 point differential) and coming off a blowout victory against the defending AFC champions Kansas City Chiefs. While the Titans (3-2) were probably vastly overrated in the preseason predictions but in the awful division that AFC South is, any winning record will do it.

Tennessee got some positive news on Wednesday with WR Julio Jones getting back to practice after missing two games in a row. LB Bud Dupree is also healthy but G Rodger Saffold (shoulder) and a couple of CBs will be a game-time decision. Bills’ injury report is empty with only RB Taiwan Jones (hamstring) missing from practice.

There was a huge number of bets placed on the Bills this week. The line opened at 3.5 and quickly jumped by two points. After the emotional win against the Chiefs and just before their bye week the Bills are in for a trap game. Be careful making your Week 6 NFL picks!

They are ranked first in defensive DVOA by a wide margin (26.6%) but there’s a catch: only one of their opponents is in the Top 10 (KC, #1) and there were special circumstances surrounding the game. WFT sits at #13 and the other three are bottom scrapers. So there’s no denying Bills are great on defense but how great? Maybe Monday Night Football will answer.

Titans’ game plan will probably call for riding RB Derrick Henry, giving him as many touches as possible, controlling time of possession and wearing out the Bills. Apart from Tennessee putting themselves in an early hole I don’t see this changing. And running the football consumes time. Therefore I’m inclined to take the under. The Titans hit it in both their home games so far and Bills finished below the projected total three out of five times.

Our Expert NFL Pick for This Game: Under 54 (-115)

Sunday Night Football: Seahawks @ Steelers – NFL Week 6 Predictions and Picks

This was planned to be a marquee QB matchup between Ben Roethlisberger and Russell Wilson. But the latter ruptured tendons in his throwing hand in the 26-17 loss to the Rams and will be out for at least a month. Enter Geno Smith, former first round bust who came off the bench to post a 10-of-17 for 131 yards, a TD and an INT last Thursday. But still most NFL expert picks Week 6 are stacked against the former West Virginia QB.

This is the second of three consecutive primetime appearances for the Seahawks but the team is fading so fast this should be their last on Sunday Night Football this season. The offense is explosive (9th in DVOA) thanks to Wilson’s escapability but RB Chris Carson (neck) is still out while top WR DK Metcalf is bothered by an ankle injury. However, Seahawks’ defense is ranked only 25th in DVOA and top tackler Bobby Wagner has a knee injury.

The Steelers suffered a big blow when WR JuJu Smith-Schuster was lost for the season with a shoulder injury. Their offense is highly suspect (19th on the ground, 22nd through the air) but since Mike Tomlin became a head coach in 2007 October has always been the strongest month for the six-time Super Bowl champions.

Our Expert NFL Pick for This Game: Steelers -5 (-110)

Cardinals @ Browns – NFL Week 6 Predictions and Picks

Cardinals (5-0) are the only unbeaten team in the NFL but needed late heroics by WR DeAndre Hopkins to squeak by a team starting a rookie QB. While the Browns (3-2) allowed four fourth quarter TDs and lost a wild shootout with the Chargers 47-42.

This game should be very personal for Cleveland QB Baker Mayfield. He was basically kicked out of Texas Tech by head coach Kliff Kingsbury who was fired in 2019 only to sign with the Cardinals a few days later. His offensive wizardry is well documented but last week the Niners showed some blueprint how to stop the QB Kyler Murray (league-leading 75.2% completed passes) which others should follow.

The early expectations were for an offensive explosion but all the sharp bets were on the under. And the line dropped by more than four points in two days. The spread however didn’t move much. It’s still Cleveland -3 and I’m not sold on Cardinals and will probably never be. Who are still among the worst in the league in yards per attempt allowed. This sounds scary against the top rushing offense in DVOA.

Our Expert NFL Pick for This Game: Browns Money Line (-175)

Bengals @ Lions – NFL Week 6 Predictions and Picks

Both teams suffered huge heartbreaks last Sunday. The Lions lost 19-17 against the Vikings on a 54-yards FG as time expired. The Bengals missed two winning FGs and lost in OT to the Packers. Still at 3-2 Cincy is very much in the mix for the AFC Playoffs spot while Detroit is hoping for a win. Anyhow…

Despite their 0-5 record the Lions are somewhat loved by the advanced metrics and are ranked 25th on offense. But they have no running game and are about to face a Top 10 defense both in DVOA (7th) and points per game allowed (7th). And after his throat contusion and a short hospital visit Bengals’ QB Joe Burrow was back to practice on Wednesday and won’t miss any action.

RB Joe Mixon was added to the injury report on Thursday although the expectations for him are to be good to go on Sunday. G D’Ante Smith and C Trey Hopkins are both bothered by knee pain but are also expected to play.

For the Lions CB Corey Ballentine (hamstring) and RB Jamaal Williams (hip) are doubtful.

The Bengals have two huge divisional matchups coming in the next four games and cannot afford a loss. Backing them on Sunday is a part of the NFL Week 6 best bets.

Our Expert NFL Pick for This Game: Bengals Money Line (-175)

Dolphins @ Jaguars – NFL Week 6 Predictions and Picks

A piece of history is about to be made in London as the Jacksonville Jaguars are on the verge to become the first team in NFL history to lose 21 games in a row. A streak that started in Week 2 of the 2020 season is now going across the Atlantic to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Games in London are usually dull and uninspiring but this one may change the narrative a bit.

Well for starters – both teams are terrible. Dolphins are 1-4 and after beating the Patriots in Week 1 are on a four-game losing streak. As for Jaguars – they played hard against the Bengals on TNF in Week 4 but all other four losses were by double digits. And if not for the historical part I would’ve not included them in my NFL Week 6 predictions.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa was designated to return off the IR and could start as backup Jacoby Brissett is nursing a hamstring injury. CB Xavien Howard (shoulder, groin) and WR DaVante Parker (shoulder, hamstring) are close to being ruled out for Sunday although the loss of the latter one should not be felt as the Dolphins are a primarily running team. Although not a good one.

Jaguars’ LB Myles Jack (back) has not practiced this week and won’t board the flight to London. For a team ranked next-to-last in defensive DVOA his absence will be huge.

Jaguars are 3-4 in London but this is at Wembley, on grass. It will be their first visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium turf. Everybody likes to see some history therefore Dolphins straight up is among my Week 6 NFL picks.

Our Expert NFL Pick for This Game: Dolphins Money Line (-154)

Thursday Night Football: Buccaneers @ Eagles - NFL Week 6 Predictions and Picks

It’s NFC East vs. NFC South to start Week 6 of the season. The defending Super Bowl champions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-1), travel to the City of Brotherly Love to face the 2-3 Philadelphia Eagles who looked dead and buried against the Panthers last Sunday but after showing absolutely no glimpse of offense for three quarters managed somehow to eke a 21-18 victory. Meanwhile, Tom Brady threw for 411 yards and 5 TDs and was three completions away from a perfect rating but was benched for the final series against the Dolphins due to a jammed thumb.

Whether this is a real problem or a full-blown media speculation is yet to be seen. Brady did not appear on the initial injury report (which, BTW, is an estimation, as the teams don’t practice on Monday) and should be good to go on Thursday. As is the starting center Ryan Jensen who left in the closing minutes of Sunday’s win. However, TE Rob Gronkowski (ribs) and LB Lavonte David (ankle) are both expected to miss the trip and the status of rookie S Antoine Winfield Jr. (concussion) is still unknown.

As for the Eagles, the starting RT Lane Jonson is still missing due to personal matters but otherwise, the team is healthy.

Most expectations are for an easy Buccaneers’ win. The line opened at -7 and there’s not much action on it. While there’s no denying the offense works on all cylinders, the defense is struggling especially in the secondary. DVOA ranks the Bucs 21st against the pass and against a high-risk-high reward offense like the Eagles this may present a problem.

The Buccaneers have not played well on the road this season so I’ll abstain from ranking them as one of the NFL Week 6 best bets. But they hit the over in four of the previous games and with the Eagles doing so in 3 out of 5 so far I’ll take the over on Thursday as well.

Our Expert NFL Pick for This Game: Over 51.5 (-111)

Week 6 NFL Picks in Brief

  • Chargers @ Ravens (-2.5): Monday’s comeback against the Colts should spark Baltimore’s season. Chargers are next-to-last against the rush.
  • Vikings @ Panthers under 46: Call it an overreaction after last week tips but both offenses stink. Christian McCaffrey is still at least a week away from being ready.
  • Packers @ Bears (+5): Bears defense is underrated yet very scary.
  • Texans @ Colts (-10): No NFL Week 6 picks against the spread selection should include this game…
  • Rams @ Giants (+9.5): West Coast teams do not like noon away start times. QB Daniel Jones is out of the concussion protocol already.
  • Chiefs (-6.5) @ WFT: Betting the over is not suggested by NFL Week 6 expert picks. Despite both teams being awful on defense.
  • Raiders @ Broncos (Money Line): With John Gruden’s resignation Raiders are a complete mess.
  • Cowboys @ Patriots under 50.5: Patriots are a very flawed team. But Bill Belichick is a defensive mastermind.

Week 6 NFL Picks: Explaining The Main Betting Types

There is a big variety of betting markets when you decide to put a bet on the chosen NFL Week 6 predictions by experts. The most popular among football betting fans are:

  • Moneyline
  • Point Spread
  • Over/Under

Because of their huge popularity, you will find them on every accomplished online sportsbook. We’ll have a quick look at each one now in order to help you understand completely how they work. This way you will be 100% ready to explore the NFL best bets Week 6 can offer.

NFL Week 6 Picks against the Spread

NFL Week 6 Picks against the Spread
NFL Week 6 Picks Against the Spread

People look for NFL Week 6 picks against the spread because the odds for the two teams in a particular game can be quite different. By trying to even them up, all sportsbooks offer point spread markets that impose an artificial handicap on the favorite team. The spreads give the underdog team an equal and opposing advantage, and consequently, the odds available tend to be much more balanced. That’s why picks against the spread are in such demand. See this example:

TeamSpreadOdds
Tampa Bay Buccaneers-6.5-110
Philadelphia Eagles+6.5-110
NFL Week 6 Picks Against the Spread

Here you see Tampa Bay being given a handicap of -6.5 points, while Philadelphia have an advantage of +6.5 points. If you put a bet on Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers will need to win by 7 points or more for you to succeed. Bet on Philadelphia and that wager will only lose if the Eagles lose by 7 points or more. With these conditions in place, the sportsbook is able to offer even odds for both teams.

When you are using expert predictions, you will surely be given NFL Week 6 picks against the spread. Just wager on the named team in the point spread market and you’ll have your winning bet served on a plate if the pick is correct.

NFL Week 6 Picks Straight Up

The straight-up or moneyline betting market is probably the simplest to understand. Here you will be offered odds about both of the teams involved in an NFL game and your only job is to bet on the team that you think will win. If your prediction is correct, your bet is a winning one and it will be settled at the odds you took. In short, when you see our NFL Week 6 picks straight up, you should be able to bet on them easily. Check the following example:

TeamOdds
Green Bay Packers-210
Chicago Bears+175
NFL Week 6 Picks Straight Up

So if you fancy Green Bay to win the NFL game against Chicago, you could bet on the Packers at odds of -210. A stake of $210 would therefore give you a profit of $100 if they succeed. On the other hand, if you bet $100 on Chicago and the Bears win the game, your profit would be $175. This is as straightforward an example as you would find. Now you should be ready to take advantage of our NFL Week 6 picks straight up.

Week 6 NFL Picks for Over/Under

The over/under betting is the third main betting market for Week 6 NFL Picks. Here you only have one job: to predict whether the total number of points scored in the game by both teams combined will be Over or Under a total figure quoted by the sportsbook. Logically, that’s why this is also known as the Totals market. See the following example to understand the concept better:

GameSportsbook TotalOdds
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Philadelphia EaglesOver 51.5/Under 51.5-110/-110
Week 6 NFL Picks for Over/Under

The over/under betting is just as simple as moneyline betting, especially if you have NFL expert picks for Week 6 to help guide you. In this type of wagering all you have to do is decide whether you think there will be over or under 51.5 points scored in the game by both teams combined. If you go for Over, there would need to be 52 points or more for your wager to succeed. Go for Under and there would need to be 51 points or fewer for your bet to win. Check out our NFL Week 6 predictions, find the best over/under bets available and put a wager.
