DraftKings went from a home-office business run by three former employees of Vistaprint to the first fantasy sports company to receive an investment from a major American sports league. A subsequent public merger saw the company valued at $3.3 billion. And all in less than a decade.
DraftKings is known for helping to revolutionize the way we all think about fantasy sports. But when the final story is written about DraftKings’ influence on sports and the way we bet on it, DFS is just the prelude.
This company has been near the front on almost every issue on sports wagering in America, including the legalization movement that began in 2018. And they are still near the front in continuing to change the way we place sports wagers.
DraftKings is offering a 20% first deposit bonus of up to $1,000, but you won't get that bonus cash in one fell swoop. You will actually need to wager your own deposit 25 times to unlock the full bonus.
You don't currently need to enter a Draftkings promo code to take advantage of this offer. Simply sign up, make your deposit and then start betting. For every $25 that you wager, DraftKings will put $1 of bonus funds into your account.
The playthrough is $1 released into your account for every $25 wagered. So, to get the full $1,000 bonus at 20% match, you would need to deposit $5,000 and place a total of $25,000 in wagers.
You can bet on sports (-300 odds or longer), daily fantasy contests or casino games to meet this wagering requirement.
The wagering requirement must be met within 90 days.
The daily fantasy sports world is full of bonus games and player pools, and DraftKings has taken that same philosophy and applied it to their sportsbook offerings.
Daily Free to Play Pools: Every day, DraftKings will feature a player pool that pays escalating cash prizes as you climb higher on the leaderboard.
Free NFL Divisional Pools: Ten NFL predictions made before the season starts, with $2,000 to be awarded at season's end for the player who got the most correct. One free entry per person.
Refer a Friend: Each time you refer a friend to DraftKings, you will be eligible for a free bet of up to $100. The friend must be new to DraftKings and make a deposit.
Deposits between $25-$49 net each of a $25 free bet. $50-$99 means you each get a $50 free bet. Any deposit of $100 or more results in both you and your friend receiving a $100 free bet. Bonus bets are valid for 90 days.
DraftKings also has seasonal and rotating promotions that include pregame insurance, which can return your money on a losing bet on anything from basketball and football to soccer and the UFC. They also offer odds boosts on local teams participating in big events, like the NBA and NHL playoffs.
DraftKings has had some rewards programs over the years. When they first went online as a sportsbook, they featured an awards program called The Program. It was a typical bets-for-points program, with the points redeemable for free bets and bonuses.
Their DFS site has a rewards program featuring crowns. Earn 100 crowns in a month, and you become eligible for daily rewards, like free entries into contests.
Now offered currently at the sportsbook are DraftKings Missions, like placing and winning bets on specific events. Win one mission, unlock the next. The more you win, the more frequent player points (FFP) you earn, the more rewards you can buy. These rewards include anything from contest tickets to DraftKings swag.
It's not the greatest rewards program you'll ever find, but since most sportsbooks don't have any program, it's not that bad.
Looking through the list of available sports and wager types offered by DraftKings, it doesn't appear that there is anything on which you can't place a bet.
The list of available sports includes:
In preparation for all your Finnish baseball bets, you need to know that the home plate is round, caught fly balls are not outs, and a "home run" is scored when the batter makes it to third base. So, in other words, you will have no idea what is happening as you watch the game.
If you are new to sports betting, or a seasoned gambler, the wager type that best suits your skill and comfort level is easy to find.
Skilled handicappers that see all and know all set the spread between the favorite and the underdog. It's up to you to decide if you want to take the points or give the points.
This is a straight win/loss bet with no point spread. Instead, the all-powerful bookmaker has given the favorite and underdog different odds of success. Win on the underdog and get a higher payout.
If you don't want to be burdened with picking the winner of the game, choose neither, and instead make a totals bet. The only thing that matters here is the total combined points scored in a game, and whether you picked over or under the given line.
These are also bets that don't care about the winner of the game (usually). Instead, these are bets on smaller events that take place inside the game, like which team will score first, which starting pitcher finishes with the most strikeouts, and how many three-pointers James Harden will hit in the fourth quarter.
These are bets on events that have yet to take place. Common futures wagers include the winner of the Super Bowl and which player will win the American League Cy Young Award.
DraftKings also offers a robust platform for getting the most out of in-play wagering. In-play, in-game, or live wagering - it's called many things - are wagers on events that are already in progress. You can bet on the winner of a half, quarter, inning, or even down to a single pitch.
The odds keep changing as the game progresses, and with each passing minute, you are presented with an entirely new menu of possible wagers.
The DraftKings website is a one-stop-shop for all of your DraftKings needs. When you first log on, you are by default taken to the Daily Fantasy Sports Lobby. But right along the top, there are tabs for Daily Fantasy, Sportsbook, and Casino (if it's available in your state.)
You know you've made it to the sportsbook because the color scheme changes to blacks and greens, which are very nice on the eyes. You'll also see a row of sports listed directly under those three main tabs that take you to any of the sports of the day. To find anything else, there is an A-Z list on the right.
With easy to find links to daily boosts, pregame insurance, live betting, and current bonus offers, the home page is laid out intelligently. The right column serves as your betting slip, and it comes with quick links to building parlays and round robins.
Not surprisingly, it's a very good website.
Unlike the website which works for both daily fantasy sports and sports wagering, there are different mobile apps for each. So when downloading the DraftKings app, make sure you are getting the one that says sportsbook.
In terms of layout, the DraftKings sportsbook app feels a little jumbled. The quick link tabs to the sports of the day are simply too big. When you first open the app, they are in the middle of the page, dominating it. The links to boosts and insurance and other promotions are also too big.
The app is very responsive, and once you click inside a sport, the layout is perfect. The live in-game section is also easy to read and use. So once you get past the crowded homepage, the experience of using the app gets better.
It's a good app, once you get into it. The homepage, however, is very unappealing.
One account will cover you for all DraftKings products. So if you already have a DFS account, you can use it to log in to the sportsbook.
If you don't yet have an account, you can register at either the website or mobile app. Both work equally well. You'll need your name, date of birth, address, email address, phone number, and social security number.
Once you've given that information, you'll pick a username and password, answer a pair of security questions, and confirm that you are at least 21 and consent to DraftKings' terms of service.
If you have a DraftKings promo code (for example, because a friend has recommended you) then you may need to enter it at this stage.
From there, you are ready to make a deposit.
Making a deposit on DraftKings is simple. When you click on the deposit button on the top right corner of the website or app, you are taken to a menu of deposit options.
First, you will select an amount. These are $25, $100, $200, $500, or Other. The last option allows you to input any amount between $5 and $5,000. The $5,000 max is by default, and it can be increased by visiting Player Limits.
Then you'll click on a deposit method - Online banking, credit or debit card, PayPal, Play Prepaid Card, or Wire Transfer. Online banking is the default option because DraftKings considers it the safest means of transfer.
Withdrawals can be done by PayPal, ACH, or check.
One note - while the DFS and sportsbook accounts are linked, not all funds are. You can only place sports bets with DFS winnings, not DFS deposits or bonuses.
When you click on the DraftKings help page you are given the following row of tabs:
Most of your questions will be answered in one of these sections. But if it isn't you can connect with a representative by live chat or by phone.
Whilst you don't need a DraftKings promo code for the 20% first deposit deal, you may need one to take advantage of any other bonuses that are available. DraftKings is a big name for a reason, so if you want to explore this venue personally, we'd say go for it.
This is an extra layer of security for your account. By request, DraftKings will text you a security pin each time you attempt to log in to your account that must be used for access.
Geocomply is a required plug-in for your computer that identifies your location. It is required to ensure that you are inside the state in which you are placing bets. While on DraftKings.com and using a Geocomply plug-in, you will not be able to use a VPN service.
