On Saturday, March 30th, the United Football League will kick off its inaugural season after the landmark announcement last fall of the XFL and USFL merger to form this exciting new league. Eight teams will embark on a quest to win the first ever UFL Championship, which takes place on June 16th, 2024.

The following teams are considered the odds-on favorites to win the 2024 United Football League Championship:
The Birmingham Stallions are the two-time defending USFL Champions and have been a part of all five USFL seasons from the original in 1983-85 to the reboot in 2022-23.
The Stallions are coached by Skip Holtz and have former third-round draft pick Matt Corral along with Adrian Martinez and J’Mar Smith at the top of their quarterback depth chart. Other notable players include Taco Charlton DL, Travin Howard LB, Gary Jennings WR, and Amari Rodgers WR.
The Stallions boast of having six All-USFL players on their roster along with having won 21 of their last 24 games. It’s clear as to why the football betting sites have Birmingham as the favorites with the lowest UFL odds on the board.
Although they lost in the 2023 XFL Championship game, the Defenders return coach of the year Reggie Barlow and plenty of talent on both sides of the ball including Jordan Ta’amu QB, Gareon Conley DB, D.J. Swearinger DB, and Preston Williams WR.
XFL leading rusher Abram Smith will also be back along with some key coaches in offensive coordinator Fred Kaiss and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. The Defenders will have a balanced attack on both sides of the ball and should contend for spot in the title game once again.
Despite having a head coach with little experience in Anthony Becht, the St. Louis Battlehawks are poised to be a contender in 2024. They’re led by quarterback A.J. McCarron who has had success in College and the NFL. In fact, he’s considered one of the best QB’s in the UFL.
McCarron will have plenty of weapons as the team returns receivers Hakeem Butler and Marcell Ateman along with adding Jahcour Pearson. Wayne Gallman will be the top running back as he adds explosiveness out of the backfield. Watch for the Battlehawks to be one of the best offenses in the UFL.

I think the UFL betting sites got the favorites correct as we head into the inaugural season. All three teams boast of talented quarterbacks that give each squad a legitimate chance of winning the 2024 UFL Championship.
With that said, I’m giving the edge to the St. Louis Battlehawks and A.J. McCarron. Although the Stallions have J’Mar Smith back, they’re not going to be as dominant as they were when Alex McGough was at the helm last year.
Additionally, the DC Defenders choked away their XFL Championship opportunity with a poor defensive performance last year. I’m not sure that this team will get over that disappointment. Plus, this defense needs to prove that they can win games as well.
McCarron specifically requested to be released by the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals in order to return to the Battlehawks. He has plenty of weapons on offense to make this team a legitimate contender from the opening kickoff. I like St. Louis’ chances this year even though they have a subpar head coach.
I think McCarron adds to his legendary spring career by capturing the first ever UFL Championship.
